What do you do with your children, on the last day of school? With most school projects currently winding down, children become excited for a much needed rest with no homework and no routine, to just relax and play.
In this post, I share our list of 5 fun activities to celebrate the last day of the school year, to simply put it, enjoy pure fun.
The Last Day of School Year
When I was a young child, all I could remember doing was counting the days to reach the last day of school year leading to Christmas. It was the longest school holiday period where I could just relax from homework and exams. No worries … no stress. The last day of school is a day to be celebrated because of our all of our hard work during the year. For my children, we mark this day as pure fun and an opportunity to do the things we like to do.
Here are 5 fun way we celebrate the last day of school.
1. Watching a Movie at Home with Pop Corn
The last day of school ends at 12 pm, in time for lunch, a movie and popcorn. It’s a great opportunity to have the family reconnect with a break from everyday routine. Here is a list of videos our family likes to watch and my husband will make for us either caramel popcorn or just plain salted butter popcorn. These are really good coming of age movies about adolescence experiences in the real world.
- Adventures in Babysitting
- Stand by Me
- Pretty in Pink
- Some kind of Wonderful
- The Goonies
- Sixteen Candles
2. Swimming – Pool Party
For those who prefer the outdoor activities and having fun .. consider swimming or having a pool party in your home. Pure summer fun, nice end to the last day of school .. as we prepare for Christmas and usher in the new year. The great thing about swimming is it is relaxing and just pure fun. Make sure you pack food for the hungry little ones.
3. Picnic by a Waterfall
One of our family’s favourite activity is to go for a walk in the rainforest, at the Gold Coast Hinterlands. We came across Goomoolahra Falls and Picnic Area where there is a BBQ pit by the stream which leads to a waterfalls. It is a beautiful area overlooking a magnificent scenic view. Go for a relaxing short walk, great for young children and the elderly.
4. Wheel of Brisbane
Have you been on the wheel of Brisbane. It is located in South Bank and you get to ride in a fully enclosed aircon gondola. You see a 360 degree panoramic view of Brisbane, 60 metres above the ground. This 12 minute ride has an audio commentary pointing out various spots of attraction with a little history. Day or Night ride, you will enjoy breathtaking views on the Brisbane river, and perhaps snap a few photos or video memories.
5. Explore the Brisbane River on the City Cat
Take a meandering ride to explore the Brisbane River on our City Cat. Although it is public transport on the river, it can also be a relaxing ride on the Brisbane river. My children love to watch the various activities along the river.
How about you? I’m sure there are other places you can suggest that are great fun for your family. Tell me in the comments below, what do you do with your children on their last day of school?
