The photos below was taken just after my wedding day mass, 20 years ago! I specifically wanted to create a wedding video montage highlighting the special events of our day. So we don’t forget how happy we were. We had a really small wedding—a mass in a Cathedral and a reception at my in-laws garden. But back then, not many people knew exactly how to mix photos and videos, and sync it to music. And I took on the challenge to create my own photo slideshow.
You too can create your own video montage. You can choose to highlight your special day. or alternatively, tell an our story video. There are many free software you can use to create a simple slideshow. Or alternatively, you can choose a professional to handle the technology aspects while you relax on your honeymoon. In this post, I’ll show you how to plan and prepare your photos and videos.
8 Sure Ways to Create a Stunning Wedding Slideshow Video Ever!
1. Plan Early
Gathering photos and videos happens after your wedding celebrations. Unless you choose to show an our story video during your reception. Sorting through them can be very time-consuming. Consider creating a checklist of what you want to include in your video. This helps you stay focused on what you need to put together.
For example: Our Story is where you tell the story of how you met. A wedding slideshow montage shows your ceremony, your reception celebration, guests video messages or even show highlights of your honeymoon.
For our wedding, we had professional photographs for our church mass and family taking photos for us at our reception. Whatever you choose to do, write down a plan to show exactly what you want to remember.
For example: Family video messages or exchanging of vows or reception celebrations. Give yourself time to explore these ideas. Or you can also find a Video Slideshow Designer to help you come up with some ideas.
2. Setting the Scene
Think of this as a message you want to tell your future self. I know it sounds odd but hear me out. In our wedding video montage, our photographer captured little natural moments when we didn’t pose. Those moments showed the joy we felt just after our wedding mass. That is what carries us through the struggle when two people come together as one. I love those photos which now hangs in a special place in our home. What is the one special photo or video you want to capture in your video?
3. Choosing your Photos
There are no limit to the number of photos you use. Choose a variety of good quality photos to tell your story. You can have short description with some photos. Arrange the photos the way you want to tell your story.
4. Choosing your Music
I can’t stress the importance of choosing music that has meaning for you. It will set the mood for your slideshow and the flow of your photos. Music has the ability to take you on a walk down memory lane to rekindle unforgettable memories.
5. Short Video Clips
If you have video clips on your iPhone/smartphone, consider adding them to the slideshow. Especially the ones that highlight a particular special moment that you want to remember for years to come.
For example: I met a couple. They used their iPhone to record the proposal. They used it as an invitation video message which was amazingly different. Very creative! Keep it short, no more than 10 seconds.
6. Special Effects and Transitions
If you’ve taken on the project of creating your own wedding video, your planning stage is crucial. Rest assured, there are many free software options you can use to finish this project. Use various effects and transitions to enhance your video. But used them wisely. They make your special event emotional.
7. Length of Wedding Slideshow
Keep the slideshow time between 7 to 9 minutes or longer no more than 15 minutes. Only if you choose to show the video to your guests at a venue. Don’t worry about the length of your video if you keep it for your own memories.
