There is no greater gift then experiencing precious moments of a grandmother’s love for her grandchildren. These are not my own childhood memories but I share a vision of my mum’s love for her grandchildren. Nothing can express the emotions I feel from her love for them because it remains with you forever.
I have met my father’s mother, the only grandma I knew but I didn’t have a close bond with her.
I’ve never experienced my grandmother’s love, my mother’s mother because she died before I was born. But I have heard amazing inspirational stories of love and dedication to her family from my mum and my godma. In some instances, I’ve felt her love surrounding me during the most challenging moments of my life. Like as though I have her approval and support. In this blog post, I share what a grandmother’s love means to me as I experience the love of many passed down through generations before.
A Grandmother’s Love
I’ve always felt my maternal grandmother’s presence in my life especially during extremely challenging moments in my life. There are no explanations for this phenomenon. In fact, my mum’s shared stories about her mother was an extension of her love for me, her only child.
Mum would often tell me about my grandmother who was a great cook. “My mum always made me nice desserts like abok abok sagu and sago pudding. I always take my mum out for lunch or to see a movie and now we do exactly the same. We watch movies and go out for lunch. I enjoyed my time with my mummy but I miss her so much.”
One day, while mum and I walked to St Peter and Paul church in Queens Street in Singapore for Maundy Thursday visiting churches, she met her friend who made this comment. “Dulcie you are very blessed! You look after your mother so well now your daughter looks after you.” I was surprised by her comments wondering how she knew but I understood what she meant.
Love is not something you can see, it is an emotion you feel within. It is unconditional for those who can feel its joy. There are very few people who experienced this kind of love and now I see it in my children’s interactions with my mum, their grandmother. She paved the way to show me how to pass on that love to my own future grandchildren.
We often learn by example and my mum taught me how to forgive and move on. Which is why I’ve been blessed with the joys of my own family.
The love of thousands
Who are you seeking for? Because what we seek knows who we are and it lays dormant within us. Many of us search the world to experience life so we can create memories that make us feel alive. Be still and listen .. what you seek lies within you.
As the only child, I have to say I’ve never felt alone. There was always that feeling of love surrounding me like as though I was connected to something bigger and beyond what is visible in the human eye. I’ve hardly ever expressed this to anyone for fear they would think I’m weird. I didn’t know how to until I found this quote by Linda Hogan which showed me what I felt was not my imagination.
Be Still and Listen
All my life, I have been sensitive to cues and minute signs around me. Whether it be my inner guide showing me my path or my intuition leading me to my destiny, I am aware of every sound and energy mother nature shows me here and now and I never feel lost. For when I stand still in the silence, my soul knows everything I need has already been provided to me. All I have to do is take action in faith. The energy of those who went before me is always within me guiding me.
