This is a traditional English Yorkshire Pudding recipe I use and guess what, it is easy to make. Whenever I make it for a Sunday roast, I go back in time to the mid 90s when I travelled to UK and went on a road-trip around Scotland. This was a life changing adventure for me. One that I’ve written about in my memoir Meant to Be.
It was there when I was first introduced to Yorkshire pudding. Since then I searched for a recipe so I could make these little puddings at home. When I found this recipe, I began to share it with anyone who wanted to try making it. Yorkshire pudding is one of the dishes I mention in my memoir, Meant to Be.
The traditional Yorkshire pudding recipe requires simple ingredients of flour, milk, eggs and oil. There are two key tips I’d like to share so you too can make the most delicious Yorkshire pudding for your Sunday roast or any other day roast.
Traditional Yorkshire Pudding Recipe
It has taken me years to get a good traditional Yorkshire pudding recipe. Most people give you the recipe but don’t tell you the key tips to make the pudding rise. It is easy to cook as long as you remember two important things.
- A high temperature oven will help make them rise. I preheat my over to around 230 C (450 F) so that when I heat the oil in my muffin tin, it is smoking hot for when I pour in the mixture.
- Let your mixture rest well after a light mixing hand and before you pour it into your smoking hot muffin tray.
Trust me just following these two steps will ensure your Yorkshire pudding rises and is crispy and puffy. Click on the video below to see how I make the puddings.
Ingredients
115grams all purpose flour
Pinch of salt
285ml milk
3 eggs
Vegetable oil
Method of Cooking
- Preheat oven 230 Celsius or 450 Fahrenheit
- Add salt to flour and sieve it.
- Add 3 eggs – one at a time and mix it with a wooden spoon.
- Then gradually add milk and stir it into a mixture.
- Here is my secret .. add a little oil and mix it through.
- Cover mixture and set aside.
- In a muffin tray, add about 1cm or 1/2 inch oil into each section.
- Place the muffin tray in the oven.
- When the oil is very hot .. take it out and pour your Yorkshire pudding mixture into each section of your muffin tray.
- Put your tray into the oven to cook for about 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.
This is important to remember .. do not open the oven before they are cooked or they will not rise. And there you have it .. nice golden brown traditional Yorkshire pudding. Crispy outside and soft fluffy on the inside. Enjoy this culinary video!
