Do you celebrate milestone birthdays?
When we celebrate family events, it bring us all together. Remembering moments in our life where we create meaningful memories to keep and treasure, while creating a connection of togetherness.
Milestone birthdays comes every once in a lifetime. Celebrating these milestone events, marks a new change or chapter in the story of our life.
In these current circumstances and constant uncertainty, I am truly grateful for those nearest and dearest in my life. I’m sure you feel the same way too. It is our family and friends whom we connect with most, they are what bring meaning to our life.
In this post, let’s consider what exactly is a milestone birthday? And why it’s important to celebrate the memories as we keep them close in our hearts.
Celebrate those Milestone Birthdays
What I consider as milestone birthdays are my children’s first birthdays. Next would be 10 years old. When our children move from single digits into dual and possibly 13 to mark the teenage years. In some families sweet 16 and 18 years marks certain milestone celebrations where they reach the legal age for attaining a driving license or even drinking.
During the Victorian era, 16 years old marks a young girls’ coming of age, where she is open to public consideration in finding a husband. Interesting how times have changed.
However, we can’t deny the fact that milestone birthdays happen once in a lifetime and celebrating our achievements help us make sense of who we are in this world.
Creating Family Birthday Memories
I love celebrating birthday memories because in some ways I show appreciation for all I have in my life. Trust me, I have so much to be thankful for! Gratitude creates such infectious energy of joy.
If you are like me, with two children, every birthday is celebrated with a small event in our home, marking the occasion with a special homemade meal and cake. And if my children like to have their friends over, we will have a small little event. This for me is an opportunity to take family photos. Anything that will marks the creation of a memory.
After these children birthdays, the next milestone event would be planning a 21st birthday, when our children move into young adults. These special occasions, becomes meaningful because in a way, we are sending out our now young adults into the unknown realm we call life.
As parents, my intention is to inspire them in the form of a special 21st birthday message to inspire the next generation to follow their dreams, to be true to themselves.
Then from here on every decade is considered as milestone birthdays starting from 30s onwards.
Although it may be different with your family, one thing remains the same is we celebrate our love ones and acknowledge their growth in our family.
My mother lives with us and she just turned 88 which is a milestone in itself because of the amazing life she’s lived. And because of this, every year we celebrate her birthday to mark it as a family event, a special occasion.
Much of which makes her look forward to her special celebration.
Make the Memories Count
We often don’t realise memories create a sense of belonging, a much-needed basic need know that we are truly loved. And in many ways, that helps us all survive and thrive in society. My children love family events because they become a part of the celebration and experience the joy that makes us all feel special.
Let’s face it, we all look forward to something special or exciting, gathering to celebrate life, then becomes an amazing experience. Whether you choose to have your family celebration at a nice restaurant or at home, you can be sure, the memories created will bring much joy, to be recalled in the future.
It’s a special tale to tell and inspire the next generation so why not celebrate life!
